Special Thanksgiving Program

Remembering Pilgrims

In celebration of Thanksgiving, Moody Broadcasting presents a radio documentary “Remembering Pilgrims”. It is the story of the Mayflower voyage and the Pilgrims who came to America. Interviews with historians at Plymouth Plantation and the actual writings of Governor William Bradford tell the story of the voyage and of those who came to this country in search of religious freedom. The impact of the first Thanksgiving and the lessons we can learn from their lives is highlighted in this two part series. “Remembering Pilgrims” will air Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 at 4pm Central.

Special Children’s Program

Nick Guy & the Deluded Delusion Affair

Nick Guy is returning with a new fall adventure. Be sure to join him at 4:00 p.m. Central Time, November 23 – 25, for the three part special Nick Guy & the Deluded Delusion Affair.

Nick Guy and Dr. DeSoto find themselves in court helping to defend a local businessman who has been charged with being delusional because he recently converted to Christianity. As the trial progresses, many of the arguments and quotes used by the prosecution are taken from writings and speeches of some of the so-called “New Atheists.” In our current cultural climate, Christianity and even God Himself are under attack. Our positions and beliefs are many times misrepresented and misunderstood, leading to a marginalization of the Church. This marginalization hinders the work of the Gospel, and the Gospel message needs to be clearly heard in this hour.

The hope is that this program will help equip believers to be able to give a strong, solid defense for the hope that lies within them. Join us November 23 - 25 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time for Nick Guy & the Deluded Delusion Affair.

"Keeping the Hymns Close By"

For the Beauty of the Earth

Author – Folliott S. Pierpoint, 1835 - 1917 Composer – Conrad Kocher, 1786 - 1872 Tune Name – “Dix”

Philippians 4:8 – Whatsover things are true, whatsoever things are honest…just, … pure, … lovely, … of good report, … think on these things

This hymn expresses many of the blessings of life so commonly taken for granted and directs our “grateful praise” to God, the giver of every good and perfect gift. The author, Folliott S. Pierpoint, begins by reminding us of all the physical beauties of the world-the sun, flowers, and shining stars. He then reminds us of the social joys of friends and home-those relationships that bring such enriching dimensions to life. Above all, however, he gives thanks for the ministry of the church, God’s ordained agency for accomplishing divine purposes in this world.

This hymn first appeared in a collection of poems published in 1864. It was entitled “The Sacrifice of Praise.” It consisted of eight six-line stanzas of which four are omitted in some hymnals. A verse not included in most hymnals gives thanks for God Himself, who has made all of the joys and beauties of life possible: For Thyself, best Gift Divine! To our race so freely given; For that great, great love of Thine, peace on earth, and joy in heaven” Lord of all to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

Folliott Perpoint was born in the historic town of Bath, England in 1835, and was a lay member of the Anglican Church. Following his graduation from Queen’s College, Cambridge, he taught the classics at Somerset College, and later became an independent writer. Although he published seven volumes of poems and hymn texts, he is best remembered for this one beautiful hymn.

For the Beauty of the Earth is mostly commonly sung to the tune of Dix, written by German composer and organist Conrad Kocher (1786-1872) in 1838. The tune name “Dix” came from the association of this melody with William Dix’s hymn, “As With Gladness Men of Old.” “For the Beauty of the Earth” was first written for use at a communion service of the church but has since become one of the favorite hymns during the Thanksgiving season.
